When we last left off, Date was planning a sneak attack on the head of Imagawa and was successful in luring Sanada’s group. The scene switches to Kenshin and his ever faithful sword, Kasuga. Kasuga is frustrated at why Kenshin didn’t attack Takeda, but Kenshin quickly silences her. He explains that during the fight between Date and Sanada, he felt a surge of power and joy overcame him heart. If he had fought there, he would have faced many casualties from the three way attack. He moves closer to Kasuga and she blushes intensely. He protects her and asks her to observe Oda Nobunaga.

Oppai! Oppai!

Lord Yoshimoto is seen sleeping in his carriage until one of his messenger’s brings very urgent news. Date’s group is assaulting their army from behind, and Lord Yoshimoto demands everyone protect him. Like his previous encounter, Date blows through the army and plans to have Yoshimoto’s head. Just as he is about to end it, that pesky Sanada’s group catches up to Date. Sanada demands Date stop and fight him. They make a deal, and whoever wins this fight will be the one to decide what to do with Yoshimoto. In an impressive show of lights, the two rivals begin their fight.

We switch view points, and see Takeda standing around fallen enemies. In a most impressive display of physics, he uses his axe to propel himself onto a horse and runs up the castle wall with it.  Here, he meets Hojo, the lord of the castle. Takeda refuses to call him lord, due to his failure of fighting alongside his troops. Takeda prepares to attack, but is ambushed by a silent ninja, Fuma Kotaro. As Fuma zips around Takeda, things look bad for him. However, with his skill he is able to predict Fuma’s moves and is able to punch him. With Fuma defeated, Hojo summons his ancestors to fight with him. Takeda easily defeats him, and claims the castle.

Before we get back to Date and Sanada’s fight, we see a short conversation between the two lovable ninjas, Sasuke and Kasuga. Kasuga is determined to take the head of Takeda, for the reason he has too much sway over her master. While going through the forest she sets off an explosive and meets Sasuke. He pokes fun at her clear disregard for her master’s orders. He asks if she wants to join his clan and she refuses. Now, we get back to the finale of the two rivals battle, but once again it is interrupted. Lord Yoshimoto, clearly not wanting to die made two other look alikes and sends them off in different paths. Date, Sanada, and Kojuro all pursue the carriages. However, on each path they are thwarted by more powerful people. They all meet up at one place and see the powerful and mighty Devil King. He has barely conscious Yoshimoto in his hands, and in the other a shotgun. The trio tense up and Oda shoots Yoshimoto.

Thoughts

This episode seemed to be a bit more serious than the first. (Which isn’t a bad thing!) We are being introduced to a few more characters, namely Oda’s crew. (Who all look very threatening! Except that kid.) Date and Sanada’s fight was extremely stunning and I love the different artstyles they used during it. I hope we can see more of that style. Looking forward to more Date and Sanada fights/FRIENDSHIP!

Akira and Saki get off the boat and arrive near the site of explosions. Saki mentions it’s become a total slum and they quickly leave. Overlooking the bridge, Akira faintly remembers his old address being over in the right direction, but states there isn’t any housing there. The two continue on and reach a small door locked tightly. Akira begins to feel a gut instinct to use the keys in his pocket and open the door. He is successful and they enter a small, dark loading area.

Upon entering the area, they are greeted with a menacing shadow which growls and snarls. Saki becomes afraid and accidentally shuts the exit. Akira tumbles into the wall and manages to turn on the light switch. The figure comes out and it is a small puppy, with angel wings. Saki tries to greet it, but it runs to Akira and greets him cheerfully. With the dog as their lead, Saki and Akira begin to explore Akira’s “home.” Kondou is seen thanking a boat driver for dropping him off and reminds him if he isn’t back in an hour to go ahead and leave. He checks his phone to make sure Akira is here and confirms.

Akira and Saki eventually found out his home is an empty shopping mall. Saki is ecstatic, while Akira is still trying to figure out why this is his house. He walks over to the mall windows  and is greeted with an eerie sight. Dirty clothes, garbage, rotten food and messages directed towards Akira are littered within the windowed area. Saki checks up on him and asks him if he’s alright. The dog continues to guide them until they reach the cinema floor. Saki figures Akira must have been a projector at the mall. Akira slyly asks Saki if she’s going to invite him to the late night show but the dog insists they travel up one more level. At the top the dog ducks into the room and the duo follow in after. Akira turns on the light and is shown a super sleek room with a brand new motorcycle in the middle of the room. Saki gushes and know things Akira was the manager of the mall. Continuing on the topic of movies, Akira asks Saki what her favorite movie is. She shly replies a movie that her previous crush liked. Akira phones up Juiz and requests she find and play the movie.

We again see Kondou snooping around the mall, namely the place with all of the dirty clothes. He comments it looks like a refugee camp and finds an immense pile of cellphones. He figures this had to do something with the missing NEET case. He brushes past the cellphone pile and sneaks out through the door. Reaching the movie theater doors, he pauses and questions whether or not Akira might be in there. Acting on his hunch he carefully opens the door and enters. Making his way to the front of the entrance walk through he wonders where Akira might have gone. He looks up and spots Saki waving to Akira in the projection booth. Satisfied, Kondou makes his way to it.

Kondou infiltrates the projection room and waits for a moment. Akira slides out from his chair and notices Kondou is alone. Kondou is confused as to why Akira knew he was already here, and Akira slides out the security camera TV. Akira wants to ask Kondou questions, but is interrupted by the detective. He begins to question Akira and asks if he really had his memory wiped. After the question’s confirmation, Kondou beings to walk over to Akira and punches him violently. After a few more hits, Kondou takes Akira’s cellphone. Barely hanging on, Akira begs Kondou not to kill or hurt Saki. Kondou frankly states it would cost more money to have her killed. He explains to Akira that once the amount on the cellphone reaches zero, the “Supporter” comes to kill them. Kondou exists the mall and leaves Akira to pass out. After noticing Akira didn’t come to her show, Saki leaves after the show is finished and gives the dog a note for him.

Akira wakes up to old pain and notices the dog pawing at his face. He reads Saki’s note and chuckles. Somehow, Akira managed to grab Kondou’s detective I.D. and is determined to find him. He takes the motorcycle out of the mall and tries to phone Kondou. Pleased with his results, Kondou makes it back to his car. He messages his “mistress” how he has enough money to play around for the entirety of his life. However, he notices Akira’s phone has different controls. He phones Juiz and she explains the phones are controlled by fingerprint authorization. Kondou remains silent for a minute and smashes his hand into the car horn. Disappointed and embarrassed, he knows he has to meet Akira.

After constantly phoning Kondou, Akira hears that he picks up. He reminds Kondou that he has his detective I.D. and Kondou asks him to come to Kabuki-cho. Kondou is waiting in the area alone, until his wife approaches him. Surprised, he asks her what she’s doing here. She grudgingly shows him his text message and reaches for a knife in her pocket. She states it’s over. Akira passes her as he tries to find Kondou, and sees him laying down. He jokes around a bit and suddenly sees Kondou’s stab wound. Akira begins to calls the ambulance, but Kondou asks him not to. For him, it’s too late. Before his death, Kondou tells Akira a few things about the Selecao. There are ten on them besides them and are forced to play some sort of game. He advises Akira to check his history on his phone and warns the Selecao might not want to tell Akira about himself. Kondou reveals Akira had captured the NEETs and bombed the area with them inside. Kondou brushes him away and asks him to leave. As he lay there dying, he states that in the beginning, he was trying for justice too.

Thoughts

Ugh, it sucked that Kondou had to die. It made me like his character even more, but I feel he won’t be mentioned ever again in the series. Why couldn’t you live, scruffy man?! Why was your last line so heart breaking?! Anyways, the series is picking up. It had quite a bit less Saki (VERY ENJOYABLE), but we see one of her more annoying personality traits, when Akira asks her about her favorite movie. Akira begins to become more serious as he unravels his past bit by bit. I’m curious to see the other 10 Selecao, and hopefully, HOPEFULLY, we’ll have someone as decent as Kondou. R.I.P ;_;

We learn of the different warlords, each having power over a certain area. In the last introduction we meet the big boss, Oda Nobunaga (who is voiced by Norio Wakamoto and is extremely awesome!!)

Takeda and Sanada discuss battle plans in the night. Takeda orders Sanada to take troops and preform a sneak attack against Kenshin. Sanada is frustrated and tries to reason with Takeda. Takeda and Kenshin are rivials, so they must fight head-on ,with full force! Takeda punches Sanada for this comment and warns him that if they are to use only one tatic, it will be their downfall. After a few more punches, Sanada seems to understand his master’s orders and in a hilarious scene they scream to each other. What a beautiful thing it is, the master and student love.

After the morale boost, Sanada leads his troops for a sneak attack. We see a brief scene of Kenshin and his lady, (who blushes an awful lot) and him declares he will defeat Takeda. Kojuro warns Date that the enemy might be waiting for them, but Date ignore this and charges forward. Here, the fated two meet, Sanada and Date. Sanada, determined to protect his master’s battle, fights Date. Each almost equal in power, their fight is impressive and filled with hotblood!

He sounds like a girl…she couldn’t be a lesbian could she?!

During the battle, Sasuke suddenly interrupts the fight. He explains to Date that he will be severely outnumbered if he choses to stay and continue fighting Sanada. Both Takeda’s and Kenshin’s army will surround the area shortly, and Date has no choice other than to leave. After the battle, Sanada begins to feel bromance something strange from fighting Date. He is shocked at Date’s strength and skills and develops a need to see and battle him again. Takeda returns to base and explains his actual plan to Sanada. Sanada feels ashamed but quickly mentions the power of Date to Takeda. Again, Sasuke suddenly appears to bring news. Takeda plans to move out and conquer Imagawa.

Back at Date’s base, Kojuro and Date brood over the outcome of the day. However, Kojuro notices Date doesn’t sound disappointed and is reminded of the energetic soul, Sanada. To cheer Date up, Kojuro mentions Imagawa’s building army and his plan to attack using a stolen strategy from Takeda, called “The Woodpecker”. Date smiles and agrees to his plan.

The next day, Date’s men manage to fool Imagawa’s troops and lead them right to Sanada’s group. Angered, Takeda gives him permission to pursue Date and be the first one to claim Imagawa’s head.

Very awesome episode, and probably going to be a very awesome series. I haven’t played the games yet (bad bad, I know) but from what I can tell from the anime, I bet they’re probably awesome too. There isn’t a lot to talk about really, it’s mostly just interesting fights. I’m looking forward to see Date’s/Sanada’s romance rivalrly deepen. Also, I’m wondering how the women will play a part in this. Are they there just to even out the male vs. female raito? Will they be annoying? WILL THEY BE USEFUL? I sure hope so. Until the next episode, MASTER! YUKIMURA! MASTER! YUKIMURA! MASTER! YUKIMURA!

The beautiful Genji and his beautiful friend, Tou-no-Chuujou, come back from a horse ride and discuss matters of importance. As usual, Tou jokes on how Genji plays with too many women and his looks, and Genji replies on how many have been talking about him as well. Tou brushes off that comment and tells Genji of a mysterious woman. She has beauty, intelligence, wit and most impressive penmanship. Tou was rejected by this woman, and Genji remains silent.

Tou changes the subject, and is concerned that Genji hasn’t been visiting the mansion in a while. He seems to think that Genji and his sister are in a fight, but Genji immediately dismisses that idea. Later that night, Genji visits Aoi and gives her a pearl comb. She is feeling sick and asks him to leave. Genji, at the age of 12, was to marry Aoi. From the very beginning the two never got along and Genji broods in his carriage.

Genji visits his calligraphy teacher and asks to see something that might help him. His teacher is pleased and hands him a beautiful piece of calligraphy. Genji is amazed and the teacher explains it’s from Rokujou Haven, the woman mentioned earlier. Genji becomes increasingly interested in her and decides to visit her on a late stormy night.

Genji arrives at her mansion and already she is displeased. He begs of her to allow him to be her student. She is hesitant, and Genji decides if he isn’t worthy enough after this night, he will never come back. Intrigued, she allows to teach him this night. After an intense and beautiful poem battle, Rokujou Haven is highly impressed. She decides that he will be her student, and Genji leaves. In shock, Rokujou Haven takes a bath. Furious that she feels this way about Genji, she yells for hot water, and in a rage enters the bath. She curses herself for not expecting Genji’s charm.

Tou begins to question Genji’s visits to Rokujou Haven and is obviously jealous. He eavesdrops on the conversation of three nobles and hears more of Genji’s night outings. Irritated, he goes to confirm this personally. He frankly asks Genji if he’s been seeing her, and Genji clarifies that he has. Genji, growing tired of Tou’s questioning decides to take a walk. Tou is left feeling confused and angry and quickly interrogates one of Genji’s servants. The servant eventually gives in and reluctantly tells Tou that everyday Genji goes to a certain spot and listens to someone practice playing a koto. Tou, relived apologizes. When Genji listens to the heartbreaking koto, he cries and can see his mother clearly.

Distressed, Genji decides to cancel his visit Rokujou Haven. When she hears of this, she is furious. She begins to cry and is at a loss as to why she is. She has fallen for him and is ashamed. Suddenly, one of her servants notifies her that someone has come to see her. Genji apologies for canceling his visit. Bothered, Rokujou Haven decides he may stay. Genji slips under the screen a love note for her, which is empty. He explains he couldn’t describe in words how he felt for her and all he could do was leave it empty. She comments on his cleverness, and he slides another note under, a portrait of her face. Genji abruptly grabs her hand and pulls her through the screen. He comments on her astonishing beauty and kisses her.

Thoughts

DRAMA! KISSING! JEALOUSY!

Again, very dramatic episode. Genji remains beautiful as ever, as well as Tou. We even see a new beauty, Rokujou Haven. It’s sad to see Genji still romantically loves his mother, but I guess this is what this entire anime will be about! I’m wondering why Genji seduced Rokujou Haven though, to get better penmanship? It is a mystery!

What a nice way to wake up…

Saki receives a phone call from a worried friend and they chat for a bit. Akira also receives a phone call from the ever mysterious Juiz, and is told Akira is in range for the Selecao system. Confused, he goes somewhere more private and tries to get more information. He asks Juiz as to why he erased his memory, but Juiz replies she can only make things happen, and not explain them. She also reminds Akira of the remaining money he has to use, ¥8,262,307,719. As Akira catches on, he learns Juiz will fulfill any wish of his, (as long as it’s connected to the economy somehow) and seeing as he needs to get out of the lobby quickly asks Juiz for a way to get out. Within a matter of seconds, someone does come for him and Saki and they begin to leave.

The switches to a scruffy moe detective, and the police radio announcing that the case of missing NEETs might be connected to an unemployed 24 year old man. (Akira doesn’ t look that old does he?) The detective scoffs and looks at his cellphone, almost identical to Akira’s. He notices Number 9 has “bribed” the airport and bought a package of plum flavored gum. The detective gets suspicious and decides to check out the airport.

Akira’s escort drops them off at the front, and the crowd applause. (I guess it’s cool to see an escort come out?) Saki begins to feel embarrassed and asks Akira if he might be famous. Akira brushes it off and thanks the crowd. Outside of the airport, Saki sheepishly explains her plans for the day are ruined, and asks Akira if he would like to go out for tea. Akira responds by revealing to Saki that he has lost his memory.  He intends to find out more about himself and parts ways with Saki. Upset, Saki goes to sulk in a washroom and practices smiling. Akira pops in and asks for directions to his address. The detective makes a quick appearance and questions as to why Number 9 is making such silly purchases.

AM I CUTE UGUU?

Saki and Akira ride the monorail and have a discussion on the missiles. Akira is persistence in knowing what has happened and continues to question Saki. There have been 11 missile attacks as of 22nd of November. Saki mentions it’s a bit unreal to have something like this happen, and is excited to think of what else could happen. (Maybe Saki’s the real terrorist?) Akira solemnly watches the disaster site with heavy eyes.

The detective is determined to find Akira now, and tries to catch him in the airport. He looks at his cellphone and can tell Akira is near. After almost giving up, he is suddenly approached by Akira himself. Akira makes a comment on how they have the same cellphone and bravely (or foolishly) asks the detective if he’s had his memory erased too. Playing if off, the detective is confused and warns Akira that it’s dangerous in this area. After Akira leaves, the detective is disappointed and calls him useless.

Akira and Saki arrive at the boat dock, and sit in silence. To break it, Akira asks Saki about her life, since he knows nothing of his. After a little prodding, Saki eventually spills. She’s in her fourth year of university and is working at her step-brother’s firm. She’s close to her sister and her step brother, and she also sadly states both of her parents died in an accident.  Akira plays with the change he recieved from Saki and is suddenly reminded of a memory. When he was five years old, someone gave him a 500 yen coin and told him to buy whatever he wanted with it. He wondered if it was alright for him to go by himself, and the stranger answered “Adults and children are treated the same if they have money.”  Akira can remember calling to his mother, but as soon as he turns around she disappears. Saki is saddened and the boat arrives. Akira gets on the boat and they have a depressing, silent farewell. Until, at the last second Akira extends his hand and Saki jumps on the boat with him. (She should have fell into the water!!)

I will jump into your arms!!

Scruffy Kondou is seen eating alone at a noodle bar, until two gentlemen enter. They demand a ridiculous amount of money (¥20,000,000) or a police list of people with debts. Kondou is annoyed and leaves the bar. It switches back to the two on the boat and they discuss Saki’s trip in America. After showing Akira all of her pictures, she talks of 9/11 and Ground Zero after seeing the missile attacks in Tokyo itself. She believes they should be remembered. Hearing this, Akira grabs her and takes a picture of them, including the disaster site behind them. Saki asks if he could send the picture to her phone and he is clueless on how to do so. She grabs his phone away and manages to do it properly.

Kondou is shown outside, being threatened by the two thugs. More irritated than before, he calls up Juiz and gives the order to kill the two. In an impressive display, both are dead within a matter of minutes. Unfortunely a civilian saw Kondou kill both, and tries to escape. Without hesitation, Kondou kills the civilian as well. He checks his cellphone and the last hit cost around 1.5 million yen. However, Kondou is not bothered by it. He declares he will take over Number 9′s duty.

Thoughts

Now it’s really getting interesting! Scruffy detective is defintely a nice touch to the series, I hope he does something major in his time. (I already know what happens to him in the end orz). Akira is quirky as usual and Saki…is getting a bit annoying. I haven’t really seen any personality come out other than “shy, I want a prince” thing she’s got going on. Is this all the personality I get from her!? I understand she’s crushing on Akira right now, but geez, is that really suitable for this kind of show? I feel if she wasn’t in it, we’d be getting a lot more serious action scenes and mood. Ah well, she still has quite a few more episodes to improve. (Even if she doesn’t, Akira should still be entertaining.) I hope we get to learn more about Juiz, I wonder if she’s the one all behind this!

The Tale of Genji, (from what I can tell) is a beautiful romance story, filled with unrequited loves, jealousy, stunning female and male beauty and SPRING~ It starts out with the man himself, Genji, making love to a woman. She pleads him to stay, and after the sweet talk Genji reluctantly leaves. Perhaps feeling guilty, Genji whispers to one of his men to give a most glamorous gift to the lady he left.

Genji meets with another beautiful friend and they both shrowd their sentences in the most beautiful metaphors possible. They joke around for a bit and we begin to hear the story of young Prince Genji. (Who is also beautiful!)

What does it mean!?

Genji’s first love began when he was only nine, when he first saw Lady Fujitsubo. She was fourteen, and at the age to be marrying. Genji was determined to make her notice him, so he would look for her everyday. Genji as usual is waiting to see Fujitsubo, until he hears his father is calling for him. His father has someone Genji would like to see. Heart beating  and thinking of Fujitsubo, Genji runs to his father’s chambers where he is greeted by both. Overjoyed, he finally is granted his wish of Fujitsubo. That is, until his father speaks. Lady Fujitsubo shall enter his court, as his wife. The news crushes Genji and Fujitsubo tries to cheer up him with ink paintings. Eventually, the two warm up to each other, however for Genji, it’s a different reason.

GASP

Lady Fujitsubo makes a comment on Spring, on how lovely and beautiful it is. It reminds her of own home, and Genji asks her if she wants to go home. She insists she doesn’t, but cries. Genji embraces her and Fujitsubo continues to cry. The next day, brave Genji returns to his favorite pond and spots some reticular flowers. Reminded of spring, he tries to climb the tree. He manages to grab the delicate flowers, but the branch breaks and Genji falls into the ice. He awakens to Fujitsubo, and is in bed. She thanks him for his effort but pleads he doesn’t try anything again. He agrees and goes to sleep.

Sometime after, Genji practices his penmanship and Fujitsubo is most impressed. The mood changes, and Genji tells Fujitsubo he had a dream about her. His usual dream is seeing his mother in her grave, surrounded by flowers. This time, it was Fujitsubo in the grave. He apologizes and Fujitsubo tells him it can’t be helped. She looks very similar to his original mother, and is much younger. She cheerfully states she will be his sister, and his mother, and he will be her bother and son. Genji quickly rejects this and kisses her. Shocked, Fujitsubo wishes him away and Genji leaves.

Seasons pass and Genji reaches the age of 12. His celebration of becoming a man finally happens, and with this is forbidden to speak to or even see any of the King’s consorts or his wife. Fujitsubo and Genji meet for the last time, and Genji asks for her to lift the screen just one last time, so he may be able to gaze at her face. She remains silent and Genji leaves.

We are sent back to the future, with Genji and beautiful friend staring off into the distance. The friend notices that Genji has a particular stare, “As if he is gazing at something far away, but he is not”.  He ponders if Genji could be thinking about an unrequited love, but brushes away that thought. The Master of Love, could never have that kind of relationship. They both laugh and the sakura blossoms blow~

SHOUJO! DETAILED EYES! DRAMATIC PAUSES! FLOWERS!

Wow, what a change for me. I don’t think I’ve ever really watched this kind of stuff before, but I have to admit I didn’t find much wrong with it. Yes, it did seem a bit silly at times but maybe that’s the charm of it for me. I was wondering if I should drop this series, but I think I’m going to continue with it. It’s interesting to see the loves of his life, (even if they all look exactly the same) and maybe his friend will have some more screentime too.  I hope I get to see more beautiful people!

Eden of the East starts of with some pretty impressive English, (that’s right, not engrish!) and we see one of main characters, Saki Morimi, in a taxi. Saki is visiting America to see the White House, a place where the whole is connected. Saki tries to throw a coin into the fountain but misses, and is questioned by the police nearby. Right before they can ask her anything, a naked man appears, and picks up his cellphone. He hears a strange frequency and seems to forget what he was doing. He sees Saki and walks over to her. Alarmed, the police try and persue the man, but he disappears on a truck. Another man monitors him in his car and calls him by “Nine”.  The man in the car has an interesting phone call with “Juiz”, and asks for arrangements to be flown back home.

Nine talks with Saki a bit, and she lends him some clothes. He thanks her and rushes off. After investigating his cellphone, he eventually manages to contact Juiz and is told he had his memory erased. Juiz can only tell him his next destination and hangs up. Nine runs through the city while evading the police. Back to Saki, she realizes she had her passport in the back pocket of her jacket which she gave to Nine. She leaves her luggage behind and tries to track him down. Nine manages to reach his apartment and finds the remains of a altered gun. When he opens the closet he finds an extreme amount of ammunition, guns and passports. He figures that he might be a terrorist when Saki rings the doorbell.

Nine gathers some belongings, and burns the rest of his passports. Saki encounters another police officer while waiting but luckily Nine saves her from this one. Probably one of the most bizzare scenes in this episode, the police officer asks to see Nine’s “Johnny”. Nine complies, and manages to escape with Akira. Outside of the apartment, Nine asks Saki if she is going back to Japan. She says yes, and Nine asks if he could come with her. They grab a taxi and go to the airport. On the way to the flight they share some cute moments and Saki introduces herself. Nine gives her his passport and is now know as Akira Takizawa. Saki asks herself if he could be her prince and catches up to him. Akira looks at a TV and the two witness that Japan has been bombed.

Thoughts

Eden of the East is certainly starting off to be an interesting show. It has America, explosions, Taxi Driver refrences, naked men and hotdogs! From what I can interpret from the OP there’s something to do with a terrorism game, and there is 12 contestants. Hopefully this prediction isn’t completely far off. Looking forward to this series!

What an interesting VN. My head didn’t explode from emotions but my heart did! For being so short, it’s sure packed with a lot of heavy stuff. It was cringe-worthy hearing the protagonist fall out of the window, that crunch is almost too realistic. All in all, I’d have to say my favorite ending is “Satisfied”.  I know I should be leaning towards “Happy” or “At Peace”, but it’s just so…satisfying! I can’t really explain it beyond that, but I feel it was the most enjoyable ending. I recommend this VN for anyone who may be a bit tired of harems, or for anyone who just wants something short and sweet to play.
